Myofascial Release (MFR)

Holistic Approach to Healing and Pain Relief

feel better - a more clinical and holistic approach

Myofascial Release (MFR) will eliminate pain and restore motion using sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions. Massage and craniosacral techniques are integrated with work on fascia tissue. Traditional massage techniques are integrated but MFR is a much more clinical approach to healing and pain relief.

What is "Myofascial Release"? Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended for pain relief, increasing range of motion and balancing the body. Techniques to stretch the fascia tissue and release accumulated tension within the tissue and muscles are applied. The connective tissue and fascia becomes more flexible and reorganizes allowing muscles and bones to return to a natural position and balance, bringing pain relief, increased flexibility and better function.

Fascia is a seamless web of connective tissue that wraps around the muscles, organs and bones from head to toe. Muscles and fascia form the myofascial system. Injuries, stress, trauma, poor posture and inflammation cause tightness and restrictions in the fascia. Over time, these restrictions affect other parts of the body, like pulling on a loose thread in a sweater.

The Goal of Myofascial Release is to release fascial restrictions and restore tissue health, thereby providing pain relief, increased flexibility and better function. Physical and/or emotional healing are the expected outcome.

"Myo" refers to the muscles and "fascia" is soft tissue that surrounds our muscles, organs and bones. Relaxing the muscles and the fascia provides lasting and effective healing.

Women's Health. Many pelvic issues are labeled as "female problems" and do not always respond to typical medical or surgical treatment. Telling a woman that these problems do not require treatment or are "all in their head" is insulting and not correct. Myofascial release is being used to relieve disabling effects in countless women. MFR treats many complaints, including:

- back and pelvic pain
- migraines and headaches
- menstrual irregularities and bleeding problems
- endometriosis
- recurrent bladder pain and infection
- pregnancy pain and discomfort
- sexual intercourse pain (dyspareunia)
- elimination difficulties
- tail bone pain (coccygeal)
- scar discomfort (episiotomy, C-section, abdominal surgery, etc.)

The pelvis is a focal point for the impact of soft tissue dysfunction, injury and trauma. Trauma to muscles and fascia creates tension and structural distortion often communicating through the pelvic region. The pelvis can be treated with many techniques at different points of the body. As hidden tension is released from the pelvis, the body is more aligned with better balance and more sustained healing.
